Judge Robert Larsen

Comments:

I have known Austin for more than 30 years. When I was a federal prosecutor (1976-91), no defense counsel could get me to do the things for their clients that Austin could. Whether it was a motorcycle gangster or a Posse drug dealer, Austin always managed to finagle a better plea bargain from me than I would have ever thought possible. He did so by being the consummate gentleman and appealing to my better instincts. Of course, when all else failed, he would simply work on my "Catholic Guilt" for a while and manage to secure whatever concessions he sought. Since my arrival on the bench in 1991, I have repeatedly appointed Austin to handle those "special" cases that required someone who could both successfully navigate the federal criminal justice system and exercise that rarest of lawyer gifts, client control. For the past 15 years, Austin has been one of my "go to" guys whenever I have had a difficult case with a difficult defendant.

"I would like to express my gratitude to long-time friend and mentor, the famous Austin F. Shute, criminal defense attorney nonpareil. Austin taught me many valuable life lessons, the most important being that seeking and obtaining justice and the best possible result for his clients was more important than making a lot of money. I have fond memories of brown paper bags full of cash, boxes of lobsters, and great traveling times, especially Tahiti."
Thanks, Austin.
